Paying more attention to the present moment can improve your mental wellbeing. This includes your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you. Some people call this awareness “mindfulness”. Mindfulness can help you enjoy life more and understand yourself better. It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.
- Aim to stay focused on what is happening day to day – avoid dwelling on things from the past that have caused you to feel down, although this is not always easy, staying focused on the present moment will increase your wellbeing and encourage a positive mindset.
- Take some time to enjoy the moment and the environment around you. Think about the weather and green spaces we live in, the food we eat, the family and friends we have.
- Be aware of your thoughts and feelings, be kind to yourself. When your mind is feeling busy you could try to sit calmly and listen to music, practise mindfulness, go for a walk, practise yoga, speak to friend or family member.
