Welcome to A-Level Computer Science
Welcome to the page for Computer Science. I am Sophie Darby the Head of the Computer Science and IT and I hope you find everything you need to support your options decisions. Below, you will find a video detailing the course and why Computer Science is a great option for many students.
The course is split into 3 components; 2 of which are assessed through written examinations, the remaining is a programming project (Non-Exam Assessment).
Of the two exam assessed components, the first is in Computer Systems, which focuses on Components of a Computer, Data Exchange, Software Development, Data Types and Legal and Ethical Issues.
The second is in Algorithms and Programming which focuses on using Computational Thinking to solve problems.
In the third component (Programming Project) students will be expected to analyse a problem, design, develop and test their solution and evaluate it. Previous projects have included arcade games, physics simulations and educational learning tools.
We have a strong department with many students going to the best universities and into fascinating careers.
