What is the Super-Curriculum?
Great learners don’t stop at the fundamentals. They explore ideas independently, ask thoughtful questions and pursue knowledge because they’re passionate and ambitious. The Super-Curriculum gives our students the chance to do just that – to dive deeper into the subjects they love, and to begin shaping their future with confidence and purpose.
Why should you take part?
The Super-Curriculum helps you stand out – not just academically, but personally. By taking on these stretch and challenge tasks, you will:
- Aim high and show ambition in the subjects you’re passionate about
- Grow in resilience as you tackle more complex ideas and learning journeys
- Take responsibility for your own progress and celebrate your achievements
- Demonstrate integrity by learning for the love of it – not just for grades
- Gain self-awareness and discover how you learn best
- Show empathy by appreciating different perspectives and ideas
These are the habits of successful learners, and they are highly valued by employers, universities and apprenticeship providers alike. Best of all – this can be fun, challenging and incredibly rewarding!
How do you become a Scholar?
The Super-Curriculum is not part of home learning – it’s entirely independent. Your teachers may highlight opportunities to stretch yourself, but the next steps are yours to take. Becoming a Roundwood Park Scholar is all about commitment, curiosity, and challenge. Each Super-Curriculum task is worth a different number of points depending on how much depth and independence it requires:
Smaller Tasks – 5 points
Medium Tasks – 10 points
Large Tasks – 15 points
Mega Tasks – 20/25 points
To earn your Scholar badge, you need to complete enough tasks to reach 50 points in total.
You can choose tasks across different subjects or focus deeply on one area – it’s up to you. The key is to push yourself, show ambition and take ownership of your learning journey.
All Scholars should complete at least 1 Large or Mega activity in order to encourage them out of their comfort zones. Other than that, there is no specific or set format for which type of tasks you should do, nor for how many of each. All we recommend is that you try and do as wide a range of tasks as possible in order to further broaden your horizons.
When you have reached 50 points, let Dr Duffy know via the Scholars tile on RM Unify so your work can be reviewed and verified. Once confirmed, you’ll be awarded your Scholar badge and join the Roundwood Park Scholars Community!
So what next?
- Explore this site and choose the subjects that excite you – see below for links to all of our subjects
- Find the challenges for your year group (or even stretch yourself with tasks from a higher key stage)
- Let your subject teacher know you’re giving it a go
- Once you’ve reached 50 points, complete the Scholars form via the tile on RM Unify
Take that next step. Be ambitious. Be independent. Be a Scholar.
If you have any questions, please speak with Dr Duffy — we’re here to support you on your Scholars journey!
Build your own Super-Curriculum
(KS4 and above – optional pathway)
At Key Stage 4 and above, you now have the option to build your own Super-Curriculum – a more flexible and personalised route to becoming a Roundwood Park Scholar.
Instead of following set tasks, you can design your own programme of challenging activities. This path is ideal for those who want to explore their interests in greater depth, develop a university personal statement, or gain insight into future careers.
You might choose to:
- Read books or academic articles beyond the curriculum
- Listen to subject-related podcasts or TED talks
- Complete online short courses (e.g. FutureLearn, MOOCs)
- Write essays, reflections, or creative pieces inspired by your research
- Visit museums, attend lectures, or engage with professional experiences
- Explore topics connected to your future studies or career goals
This is a fantastic opportunity to show ambition, independence, and responsibility – key ASPIRE values – while building evidence of super-curricular engagement for post-16 or university applications.
How do I earn a Scholar badge through this route?
Independently assign each activity you complete a number of points based on its challenge level:
Short task – 5 points
In-depth engagement – 10/15 points
Extended or high-level activity – up to 25 points
Your subject teacher or Dr Duffy can advise you on assigning points to your tasks if you’re unsure.
Once you’ve reached 50 points, you can submit a brief summary or reflection explaining what you did, why you chose it, and what you learned. Dr Duffy will review your submission before awarding your Scholar badge.
What if I prefer the original Super-Curriculum?
That’s absolutely fine! The original Super-Curriculum, with teacher-led tasks and subject-specific challenges, is still available for all year groups. You can follow that route, mix it with this flexible pathway, or even do both – it’s your journey!
Where to start
To help you get going, we’ve shared some example ‘Build Your Own Scholar’ guides on the website. These include suggested books, podcasts, and activities linked to different subjects, careers, and university courses.
If you’re not sure where to begin or want some guidance, speak to your subject teachers, your form tutor, or Dr Duffy.
Take ownership of your learning. Be ambitious. Be independent. Be a Scholar.
