Leaving and Beyond Sixth Form

Two more years at school may seem like a long time, but if students are to have the best chance of pursuing their dreams beyond Sixth Form, every day is important.

Careers Education in the Sixth Form

Our support of students begins even before they enter the Sixth Form with the Year 11 guidance meetings. Prospective students are asked about their future plans and their subject choices are reviewed to see if they are appropriate. Where there is a risk that a student might not achieve the grades to return to Sixth Form, they are helped to put in place a back-up plan.

Careers Lessons

In Year 12 students receive regular timetabled careers sessions called Future Options lessons. These are taught by our Careers Officer and lead to work experience and professional interview practices with local and national employers.

During Year 12 students have a number of tutorial lessons geared towards planning their future beyond Roundwood Park School. These currently include:

Individual Progress Meetings
Completing a careers action plan
Introduction to Personal Statements/CV writing
Personal Finance

Talks

A series of talks are organised to help students understand the process for applying to Higher Education. These include:

Applying to university
Applying to Oxbridge and competitive universities
Step by step guide to applying through UCAS
Student Finance
Advice on Higher Apprenticeships, setting up their own business and going into employment
Preparations for learning and exam systems
