Our Houses
At Roundwood Park we have a thriving HOUSE system that really brings us together as a community – as well as promoting some healthy competition!
Our Houses are named after influential individuals who have been, or still are, inspirational role models:
John CADBURY – an activist and philanthropist; championing workers’ rights, environmental and industrial reform, animal welfare, education, and healthcare, while actively opposing cruelty, exploitation, and indulgent practices.
Anne FRANK – a world-famous German-born diarist and World War II Holocaust victim. Her work, The Diary of a Young Girl, is a published journal of her experiences during the Holocaust.
Tanni GREY-THOMPSON – one of Britain’s greatest Paralympic athletes. Over 16 years and 5 Paralympic games, she has won an amazing 11 gold medals, 4 silver and 1 bronze.
Nelson MANDELA – his story is one of courage, driven by his sense of right and wrong and his legacy has been the inspiration for change worldwide.
Jessie OWENS – the grandson of a slave, his stunning achievement of four gold medals at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin has made him the best remembered athlete in Olympic history.
Robert Falcon SCOTT – a British Royal Navy officer and an explorer – he was the first British explorer to reach the South Pole and explore Antarctica extensively by land in the early 1900s.
William WILBERFORCE – his greatest political achievement was his long fight to end Britain’s involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. He used his position as a spokesperson for the Abolition Movement and was the first Member or Parliament to raise the issue in the House of Commons.
Our House Values can be seen below, as well as our House colours and logos:
Our 7 Houses each have a member of staff as ‘Head of House’ and, perhaps more importantly, we have nominated and elected student House Leaders from each Form Group, as well as House Captains, who are members of our Sixth Form Senior Leadership Government (SLG) It is the House Leader’s and Captain’s role to assist in the running of their House with the support of their Head of House. The Leaders and Captains will suggest, plan and organise many of the fantastic events we hold across the school year.
Please watch the video below to hear from our Head of the entire House system, and total House legend Mrs Tattersall:
RPS has a rich and varied extra-curricular programme for students to participate in, ranging from enterprise, community and charitable work, to musical, dramatic, sporting and artistic endeavours. There are so many ways in which our students involve themselves in the wider life of the school that it seems only fitting to ensure that the House system is used as a vehicle to reward student participation. It aims to foster a sense of pride and encourages students to take on the leadership of all House activity and gives them a chance to give back to school life.
