Sophie (whitwood) Johnston (2005)
After her A’levels Sophie gained a BA in Early Childhood Studies and Deaf Studies from the University of Wolverhampton. She then went to City University, London, where she gained a Post Graduate Diploma (merit) in Speech and Language Therapy.
Her first post as a Speech and Language Therapist was at the central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust. From there she moved to New Zealand to take up a similar post at Sommerville Special School in Auckland. This was a full time position working in a special school in Auckland City catering for children 5-21 years with learning disabilities and complex needs. The school was set across a ‘base school’ as well as a number of satellite classes within local mainstream schools.
Sophie has returned to the UK and is now a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at the East London NHS Foundation Trust.
