I am journalist and scholar of Arabic language, history, culture and politics. Since graduating from
Oxford University, I have lived, worked and studied in several Middle Eastern countries, deepening
my understanding of the region and attaining a high level of proficiency in the Arabic language.

I am currently London correspondent of The Arab Weekly, a weekly English-language newspaper covering Arab affairs. I have contributed articles and radio pieces to the BBC, The Guardian, The Financial Times, Egypt Independent and Georgetown University’s Global Security Studies Review. I have also written Arabic-language analytical pieces for various Egyptian publications. Working at Reuters Video News, I gained competence at video and audio production. I have a strong background in political analysis and research, with a particular focus on Middle Eastern affairs (courtesy of LinkedIn)

Tom gained a BA(hons) in History & Politics from University College, Oxford in 2010. He studied an Arabic language, politics and culture course at the Institut du Proche – Orient.

After leaving us in 2010, Mayank studied Accountancy & Finance and gained a 1st class Batchelors degree from the University of Leeds. After internships with Aberdeen Asset Management and  DeLoitte,  Mayank became an Associate Relationship Manage before taking up his current post as Assistant Manager at Lloyds Banking Group in Edinburgh.

Peter Dennis

Peter Dennis [1987]: Back coaching St.Albans HC.

As an outstanding hockey player and also a highly qualified and experienced hockey coach [ England, St Albans & Harpenden], Peter chose to redirect his efforts away from coaching to concentrate on his career in the City. He currently works for UBS AG in London where he is the Director of Communications & Branding. However after an 18 year break, Peter is back coaching St Albans Hockey Club.  He is assisted by alumna Charley O’Dell [2010] who is the team Physio.

Hon Lo

Hon Si Lo [2012] – Life in Hong Kong

After studying Maths, Chemistry and Physics in the Sixth Form, Hon returned to his native Hong Kong where he is currently studying for a batchelor’s degree in Economics & Finance. He says ” It is tough.”

Before  starting his studies at University, Hon gained work experience in the China Banking Regulatory Commission in Beijing. During his studies he has found time to gain valuable experience as a research assistant in Mergermarket and also at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Hon has also worked as an Events Coordinator at the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association.

Hon hopes to graduate in 2016 – we wish him luck.

After leaving us Gareth went to the University of  Nottingham where he gained a BA in Film & Television Studies. During his time there he worked on the University radio station as a presenter and was known to play requests for teachers during chemistry practicals! Gareth also gained a prestigious Union award for outstanding contribution to the University.  During his career in the creative arts he won further awards for his outstanding creative, marketing and strategic talents. Gareth has worked for the BBC, Channel 4, BSkyB and Yellow Cat Recruitment. He currently works as a  Creative Producer at Comedy Central ( tv channel) in London.

Emily is currently an Accounts Manager at JJ Marketing in Oxfordshire, After leaving us, Emily gained a degree in Business Management and Marketing from the University of Manchester and from there she gained considerable experience in the business world through marketing  communication, recruitment and programme coordinator to managing accounts.

After leaving us in 2003, Laura went to the University of East Anglia to gain a degree in English Literature. Following that she gained her GDL and LPC from the College of Law in London.  After a spell as an Associate Solicitor at Reed Smith LLP she has moved and is now an Associate Solicitor at Lewis Silkin LLP where she is concerned with Real Estate & Development

Zoe is currently a Senior Accounts Manager at The Good Relations Group. After leaving us in 2004, Zoe embarked on a significant period of study to gain academic qualifications to support her career goals. She gained a BSc(hons) in Geography from the University of Birmingham, then studied French at Birkbeck College before gaining a Media Law qualification from the University of London , an MA in Political Communication from Goldsmiths college and finally an MBA [online] from the London School of Business & Finance. These all helped Zoe to work her way up to her present position via a number of key posts at John Lewis, Dodds group and the RICS.

Although Richard started his career in the Marketing side of the chemical industry , working as a Market Manager for Prayon UK plc for nearly two decades, Richards true talent lay in photography.

He is currently a freelance Photographer and has run his own company, Richard Washbrooke Photography, in Harpenden since 2009. His photography covers a range of disciplines; Sports – Premier Football, International Rugby, Test Cricket, Tennis – Wimbledon and Queens, Golf – Wentworth, Motorsport – Britcar and F1. His free lance work has involved a great deal of action sports work. for a number of clients/organisations.

Richard was hired by Matchtight Ltd to help photograph the Paralympic Games London 2012 and one of his images of Ellie Simmonds winning her first Gold Medal was chosen to be used by the Royal Mail for their stamp collection of Gold Medal Winners.
