RPS SLG nominated for YOPEY

Young People of the Year or ‘YOPEY’ is a campaign to give young people a fairer image in the media – and society as a whole – by ‘revealing, recognising and rewarding’ young unsung heroes and setting them up as positive role models for other young people to copy.

The SLG (Student Leadership Group) at Roundwood Park has been nominated for a possible award as part of YOPEY. To read the full story, Click Here.

Planning Permission Granted for the 3G pitch

Planning permission was granted by St Albans City and District Council (16th Jan 2017) for a full size 3G pitch to be built at Roundwood Park School. Councillors voted 6 in favour and 1 against approving the application. A massive thank you to everyone who played a part in achieving this, from submitting comments to the planning website, to coming along to the hearing, to signing the petitions.

We will now finalise our application to the FA and approach other fundholding bodies to ask for financial support for the construction of the pitch as well as launching a joint fundraising programme with Harpenden Colts.

Following the successful planning decision, Roundwood Park School and Harpenden Colts will seek funding from a number of sources including The National Lottery and Sports England and will then complete our application to the Football Association by April. We hope our bid will be successful and would anticipate hearing the outcome by July. At that point our governing body will discuss and decide on how the school will cover the remainder of our own contribution to the construction costs. Watch this space for updates!

3G Pitch Latest News : Nov 2016

The school has resubmitted plans for the 3G pitch, addressing the area that councillors cited as the one and only reason to reject the initial submission-OPENING TIMES. The new application is identical to the initial plans but opening time has been reduced to 9.30pm during the week and the pitch will not be open on any Bank Holidays throughout the year. Weekend opening times remain unchanged at 6pm.
We are delighted to be able to say that the new submission was considered at Harpenden Town Council on 15th November. The committee recommended APPROVAL.
The application will be considered by St Albans Council in the coming months. We expect this to be after Christmas.
In the meantime, thank you for your continued support as we reach that part of the year when PE lessons, training and matches are routinely cancelled due to the unplayable conditions of our grass pitches. Once the timescale for consideration of our application is clearer, we will seek to encourage you to contact councillors to express your views.

3G Pitch Latest News

Unfortunately Roundwood Park’s planning application was rejected at St Albans Council on Mon 27th June on the casting vote of the Plans North Committee Chair. This is despite the technical report from officers recommending that there were no grounds for the application to be rejected. Councillors were aware of a petition from 1000 Roundwood Park and Harpenden Colts members in favour of the development. Roundwood Park governing body will consider our response to this disappointing setback in the coming weeks.
